Residents of Dawhenya came together in an act of heroism to rescue a mother and her three children who were caught in floodwaters. According to a TV3 report, this occurred after an irrigation system in the area breached its bounds into the village, producing floods in the Dawhenya community. Because of the high level of flooding, the family became stranded in their home and faced a potentially fatal predicament. Some residents, however, rushed in to save the day. They accomplished this by establishing a human chain and cooperating closely. With time, as can be seen in the video, they were able to rescue the mother and her three children from the water, to safety. In the video, the children are first rescued before their mother follows after them, with the help of the men.
