Top five Ghanaian pastor 'fights' that Ghanaians will never forget

A recurring theme that runs through the Bible, which serves as the moral guide for Christians, from the Old to the New Testaments is peace and love. As a result, some Biblical historians believe that the Ten Commandments boil down to two fundamental themes: love and respect for God and love for one's fellow people. If the Bible, which acts as a guide to control the lives of Christians, sets such a high value on peace and love, it is reasonable to expect pastors, prophets, evangelists, or any other leader of a Christian flock to exemplify those values. Unfortunately, and due to their inherent nature as humans, pastors have not only been at odds with their members or family, but have also 'beefed' (as used in the entertainment lingo) with their fellow pastors. These public confrontations are primarily motivated by differing religious beliefs, a desire to safeguard perceived territory, miscommunication or a war for spiritual dominance, and, on occasion, a display of folly and indiscretion.

Owusu Bempah vs Agradaav

Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah and self-proclaimed evangelist Patricia Oduro traded direct and indirect shots for months. Their junior pastors became embroiled in the conflict and dragged each other, especially on social media. The feud escalated to the point where Reverend Owusu Bempah allegedly attacked Nana Agradaa's premises and allegedly uttered threats, leading to his detention by police. The beef was thought to be settled, but Agradaa continued to poke B mpah, even going so far as to publicly state that he died while in the UK seeking medical care. Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah then warned the Inspector-General of Police and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to intervene in the affair or he would take action. He threatened to take matters into his own hands if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia did not interfere.

"I am telling Ghana's president, vice president, and IGP that if they don't find something to tell the woman (Agradaa), I will not take the country's laws into my own hands, but I will do something." I vow on my life that I am telling you the truth.

Prophet Obinim vs Reverend Opambour

The rivalry between the two in 2012 and 2013 was primarily about popularity and dominance. Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom Opambour, nicknamed Prophet One, of the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre, who had dominated the Kumasi pastoral scene for years, found his popularity threatened by Bishop Daniel Obinim of the International God's Way church, and he fought back. During their talks at their separate congregations, the two pastors exchanged veiled and direct shots. Obinim even challenged Reverend Opambour to spiritual conflicts at occasions. Though they have not officially smoked a peace pipe, they have recently reduced their rhetorical warfare.

Reverend Obofour vs Reverend Adom Kyei

Reverend Obofour, the founder and leader of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC) Worldwide, aroused outrage in March 2023 by allegedly revealing truths about Stephen Adom Kyei Duah, a renowned Ghanaian televangelist. The rivalry between the two religious leaders appears to have started after Rev Adom Kyei Duah accused Obofour of visiting his church, drinking his sobolo (a traditional Ghanaian drink made from hibiscus flowers), and then asking a loan. Obofour has angrily disputed the allegations and accused Duah of lying in order to gain attention to his miracle things, which he claims is a business strategy. Obofour was shown in a social media video labelling Duah a "liar" and questioned why, if he had drunk the sobolo, which he employs for miracles, he couldn't have used it on his bald head to make it grow.

"That person is a thief. He claimed I came to drink his sobolo and eat his biscuits so he could promote them. Don't take it lightly. He is constantly seeking attention for his miracle things. That is how he obtains the funds. He is a lie; I did not consume any sobolo. Why doesn't he pour his sobolo on his head to make his bald hair grow? I have seen the video. "He was bragging," he said.

Nigel Gaisie vs Reverend Owusu Bempah

The two well-known prophets were at odds over their respective spiritual works for the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress. The feud began when Reverend Owusu Bempah referred to Prophet Nigel Gaisie as his "small boy" after the latter made a prediction about the victor of the 2020 elections. Nigel Gaisie predicted victory for John Mahama, but Prophet Owusu Bempah objected because he had foretold victory for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Peace has prevailed between the two when Nigel Gaisie sent Reverend Owusu Bempah a birthday message in 2021. He also came to his defense when he was arrested by the police during his war with Nana Agradaa.

Dag Heward Mills vs Larry Odonkor

A court dispute is presently underway between Dag Heward-Mills, the leader of the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC), Bishop Larry Odonkor, and several unhappy former church leaders. The irritated men of God alleged that Dag Heward-Mills offered them bad bargains while they were pastors, as their SSNIT and other benefits were not paid. They also allege that they made significant sacrifices for the church but received little in return. Since 2021, the case has been on trial.
